Philosophical hammer
DatingNovember 1880
A curious tool in its extreme simplicity used to hear the sound produced by a liquid that he drips or falls on a surface in conditions of low pressure (around the millimetre of mercury). With surprise it was possible to notice that the sound was the same produced by a hammer in striking a metal surface.
