Hard rubber rod
Dating8 March 1940
Glass is not the only insulating material, but were also invented natural substances with interesting insulating characteristics and properties, such as hard rubber. The hard rubber was obtained by O. Meyer and T. Hancock in 1843 for prolonged vulcanization of the natural rubber in sulfur excess and with the addition of other minerals. Among its the various applications there is also the one as electrical insulator. In this case the rod was electrified by rubbing and it acquired a negative charge.
