Spectroscopic tubes

These four low pressure tubes are filled respectively with carbon dioxide, oxygen, hydrogen and mercury. Connected to an electrostatic machine both suitably equipped and powerful, the gas inside them is taken under the condition of conduction and of emitting light, which can than be analyzed by means of a spectroscope for recognizing the characteristic spectral lines of the substance (spectral analysis).
