Babinet's goniometer
Dating1844 - 1845
MakerJean-Baptiste Soleil (1798-1878)
This device was a reflection goniometer for the measure of the corners formed by two concurrent faces, as for instance those of a prism or of a crystal (in mineralogy context). The piece is signed "Soleil à Paris", while the name is bound to the French physicist Jacques Babinet (1794-1872), who invented the instrument in 1839.
